Biovill Ghelința

Ghelinţa Municipality - Covasna county, Centru region

situated in the eastern part of Covasna County, along the Ghelința stream, the commune and the village of Ghelința, the commune's seat, are located at the western foot of the Bretcu Mountains.
The commune is made up of Harale and Ghelința, with an administrative area of 11,020 ha.

Main economic activities: agricultural activities, logging and wood processing, local tourism.
Projects implemented in the development of the biomass concept

Based on the huge potential of the locality to use renewable resources, mainly biomass, to provide heat and hot water, local people were encouraged to join a pilot project and contribute to the establishment of a bioenergy village.

Thus, in 2020, Ghelința was selected by the Green Energy Cluster as a pilot municipality in the Biovill (Bioenergy Villages) project to become a bioenergy village. The project implemented by the Green Energy Cluster was funded by the Horizon 2020 programme and provided support to develop the local bioenergy value chain.

Ghelința is a pioneer in terms of bioenergy investments and projects, but also an example of best practice in providing energy from renewable sources.
The Bingo Bakery, the Town Hall, the sports hall, the kindergarten, a hostel and other public and private premises are currently connected to biomass heating plants, providing hot water and heat at favourable prices.
